This year on NY Gives Day, United Way added a volunteer component to further impact our community. Volunteers from Utica College, Notre Dame Schools, Central Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired, Utica National Insurance Group, Assist2Sell, First Source Federal Credit Union, Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy, The Hartford, First Choice Group CNY, and The Bank of NY Mellon assembled holiday baskets to be gifted to veterans and their families at the Central New York Veteran's Outreach Center, 726 Washington Street, Utica, and painted at Thea Bowman House’s St.
On Friday, October 20, United Way held its 2017 Leaders Gala. Generously sponsored and hosted by John and Jackie Romano, this event recognizes and thanks United Way’s Leadership Donors for their gifts to our community through United Way. Guests enjoyed dinner and dancing with live entertainment provided by Stage Road.
On September 28, 2017, we were thrilled to unveil the Veteran’s Garden at the Central New York Veterans Outreach Center along with representatives from Curtis Lumber Company, Stone Age Landscaping LLC and The Hartford. Generously funded by The Hartford employees and various partner’s donations, the garden features raised-bed plots and rain collection systems. Construction of the Veteran’s Garden was made possible through collaboration between United Way, The Hartford, Curtis Lumber Company, Home Builders and Remodelers Association of the Mohawk Valley, Stone Age Landscaping LLC, and Westminster Moriah Olivet Presbyterian Church. Signs were provided by Utica Sign and Graphics.
On September 21, 2017, United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area kicked off its 96th annual campaign at the thINCubator in Utica today. The campaign kick off marked the start of our annual fundraising effort and gave us an opportunity to thank local companies, donors, and volunteers for their generosity and commitment to our community. Guests including donors, business and community leaders, volunteers, and nonprofit leadership enjoyed live entertainment by local musician Gary Johnson the "one man band." Special thanks to event sponsor A Moveable Feast by O'Connor's.
